Yum Cha – Bunny in Malaysia

This weekend we went to Batu Pahat, Johor, a small town in the South of Malaysia. The bf grew up there and we made the trip to visit his parents, and to return his dad’s car which we’ve been borrowing for 2 months (thanks bf’s dad)!

On Saturday afternoon, we decided to watch the new Spiderman – far from home movie at Pacific BP Mall, so after that we dined at Kafe Kiri Kanan for dinner. By the way, I thought the movie was average…..

Kafe Kiri Kanan

Really good, in food court standards.
Ramen Sayur Ayam Sup RM 8.45
Light meal, I don’t think it was enough for bf’s dad as he kept stealing the mum’s food!
Kari Ayam + Roti RM 8.70
Light meal for bf’s mum. Tasty but a bit spicy!
Nasi Lemak Ayam Goreng RM 8.45
Bf enjoyed his fried chicken (always does).

Ming Castle

BBQ Meat Bun RM4.50
Didn’t taste this one, looked ok?
Sesame Ball RM4.50
It has red bean paste in the middle, recommended!
Carrot Cake RM7.50
I thought this was just average.
Prawn C Fun RM5
This one was just average too…

Fried Prawn Roll RM6
The star of the show! Crispy tofu skin on the outside, prawn and chives on the inside.
Pork and Century Egg Porridge RM2.80
A good tummy filler but not as good as congee back in KL.

Sweety Yolky Bun RM4.50
I always have to order this dish, and check whether the inside is runny like it is meant to be..
Ok, so it was runny…..but the outside bun wasn’t as soft as I imagined and tasted a bit plain.

Today I am introducing my favourite yum cha restaurant in KL! Actually…it’s the only yum cha restaurant I’ve been to so far (3 times), but because it’s so good I haven’t wanted to try any other places yet!

Thank you to the Hari Raya public holidays, today we visited the branch closest to our home – Old Town, Selangor for lunch. They have a total of 8 outlets in KL.

Thousand year egg & pork congee

What is yum cha without congee, right? The congee was thick, with generous portions of egg and pork. Loved the extra flavour from the ginger shreds! Highly recommended.

Fried Yam Pastry
RM 5.50
Crispy on the outside, soft yam paste and meat in the middle.
Chicken Gluten Rice
RM 5.50
Gluten rice with a good portion of meat.

Crystal Shrimp Dumpling
RM 5.50
Similar to the popular har gaw (shrimp dumpling), but wrapped in a crystal/clear pastry. I personally prefer the har gaw (pic below).
Shrimp Rice Roll

The rice roll is so soft and the satay sauce gives it extra flavour, a must order!

Steamed Chicken Claw, Siu-Mai & Har Gaw
RM 5.50/ each
The chicken claw is different to the flavour i’m used to in NZ, so I thought it was just ok. Both the siu mai and har gaw were above expectations with lots of meat/shrimp and lots of flavour.

Golden Bun
RM 5
I have tasted a lot of golden buns that aren’t runny in the inside. This restaurant manages to make them runny every single time. This is so addictive, order with caution!
