Unique Seafood (PJ) 奇怪海鮮

Date: 30 June 2019

Truth is – we went there 2 weeks ago, but it’s so good I must do a review! When my mum and sister came from Taiwan to visit my bf and I in KL, this was one of the restaurants on our list to take them to. If you like seafood, specifically crab, you won’t regret coming here.

0.5 Tiger Prawn Salted Egg RM55
If you love salted egg, you will love this dish! Because of the sauce, and how they cook it, you can eat the shell (yay no peeling!)
Eek! Ok, so definitely only for special occasions!

Food review summary

  • Favourite dish: Salted egg prawns! Yummy!
  • Price: $$$ (very pricey, but I guess that’s the cost of seafood?)
  • Taste: 4.5/5 stars
  • Service: 3/5 stars (waited a looong time)

Templer Golf Country Club

Date: 30 June 2019

The unique limestone in the middle of TGCC.

This week we have a very special food blog, because my mum and sister are visiting Malaysia for the first time from Taiwan!

My sister is a golf player, so the bf contacted a colleague who plays golf to take her for a game. Today we visited Templer Golf Country Club and had lunch at the Japanese restaurant at their club house (not sure if the restaurant has a name or not). We had heard good things about the restaurant from several people, so our expectations were pretty high…

Saba set – RM 29.70
I love grilled saba fish, and this one did not disappoint. Juicy fish and tasty rice. A bit on the pricey side, but I would order it again.
Oyakodon – RM24.40
A pretty decent bowl of oyakodon. Tender chicken and eggs on a bed of good quality japanese rice.
Hiyashi Chuka – RM20.15
Mum and sis both ordered this, cold Chinese style noodles and they both liked it. Springy noodles with tasty sauce.
Onigiri (2pcs) – RM 6.40
Mum ordered extra rice for sis, as she was playing 18 holes that afternoon and noodles itself wouldn’t have lasted long.
The rice balls had different fillings – one had plum and the other some kind of meat floss? Again, the rice was perfect.

Food review summary

  • Favourite dish: Saba set menu
  • Price: $$$ (a bit pricy for me, but probably normal price for a golf club)

  • Service: 4/5 stars
  • Cleanliness: 4/5 stars
  • Overall: 4 stars (highly recommended to dine in when playing at TGCC)

Restoran Mi Hokkien (上城福建麵)

Date: 15 June 2019

Last time we were in the Up Town area (Damansara), we noticed there were a few restaurants that were really popluar to the extent that tables were set up on the pavements. One of those restaurants was selling Hokkien Mee in large plates. We went back for a try.

We got there early, around 6pm and there weren’t many people. It is more a late night/ midnight eatery (open until 2:30am most days).

There one page menu – you select what dish you want and for how many people, which determiens the serving size and the price.
Note: the prices down the bottom are only for their hokkien mee.
They have two dining areas, so we didn’t realise they sold duck until we went to the other side to pay. The duck looked and smelt really good. Will definitely order next time.

Food review summary

  • Favourite dish: Hokkien mee (fat noodles) with sambal
  • Price: $$ (around RM 50 for 2 people)
  • Taste: 3.5/5 stars
  • Service: 4/5 stars
  • Cleanliness: 4/5 stars
  • Overall: 3.5 stars (good but not great)

Nam Heong (南香)

Date: 30 May 2019

This place is famous for their chicken siew pao and egg tart. I tried their chicken siew pao for the first time a few weeks ago and have been craving it ever since! So, after work we decided to have dinner at their restaurant located at Starling mall.

We arrived around 6.20pm, which is considered early for a weekday so there wasn’t a lot of people at the restaurant nor the mall (which made finding parking easy)!

They use an online ordering system – easy to use, by I personally prefer flicking through a menu (call me old-fashioned).
I ordered a twin mixed roasted meat rice – bbq pork and roast pork
RM 16.90
Not too special for me, star of the dish was the rice…
The boyfriend ordered their signature wat dan hor + cirspy pork lard
RM 14.10
He also said this was average only.
Ipoh white coffee
RM 4.20
Apparently the uncle who developed this is still making coffee in Ipoh. I thought it was nice but personally not a big fan of white coffee (I drink mine black).
Takeaway siew pao and egg tart
3.20 RM/each
This tastes good, even after a few days in the fridge! I love the siew pao, while the boyfriend loves their egg tarts. Win-win!

Food review summary

  • Favourite dish: Kaya toast & chicken siew pao
  • Price: $$
  • Taste: 4/5 stars for pastries, 2/5 stars for food
  • Service: 4/5 stars
  • Cleanliness: 5/5 stars
  • Overall: 3 stars (definitely let down by the food)
