Date: 15 July – 26 July
Hi everyone! I’ve been in Penang (Island) for work for the last 2 weeks, so today’s post is about Penang food! Even though we ate a lot, I did not get a lot of photos unfortunately, because I was with colleagues and felt a bit self conscious taking so many food photos! So, I’ll just introduce Gurney Drive Food Court and some of the cafe’s we went to. At the end of the blog, I’ll talk a bit about other foods we tried.
Gurney Drive Food Court

Gurney Drive Food Court – Food review summary & Location
- Favourite dish: Taro cake!
- Price: $ (but a bit more expensive than the normal food court price in Penang)
- Taste: 3.5/5 stars
- Overall: 3.5 stars (it was ok, next time I would go in the weekend when more stalls are open.)
- Location: 172, Solok Gurney 1, Pulau Tikus, 10250 Jelutong, Pulau Pinang.
Drinks Edition
What do colleagues do when they are working in another city and have nothing to do? Go for drinks…..we tried Xing Fu Tang, Pann Tea and Instea

All 3 of us ordered the classic brown sugar bubble tea.
RM 12.50 each.
A bit sweet for my liking but also very addictive. Within 5 mins I had drunk half. Will be going back but not for a while (due to the price and the calories).

Their signature drink- fruit tea. Very nice, not sweet and refreshing. High recommended!
Instea’s bubble tea! We were all like “what the heck is that”, and took turns trying it. We concluded it was either a cheese or custard thing. My colleague said the bubbles were a bit hard so only had half.
Drinks Edition – Review summary & Location
- Favourite drink: Instea’s signature fruit tea!
- Price: $$ (drinks are even more expensive than food!)
- Taste: 4/5 stars
- Overall: 4 stars (they were all good, and would go back to all of them)
Overall, I had a great time in Penang. They serve foods in smaller portions at around RM 5-6, so you can order more than one dish and share with friends. The traffic jams were the only downside about Penang island. So, try not to travel around 4.30-6.30pm. My bf and I will be going back to Penang at the end of November for the Penang Marathon. So, look out for Penang food review #2 🙂
